The Master of Science in Health Economics and Clinical Outcomes Research [MS-HECOR] is a 39 credit hour professional program offering students a foundation in health economics, outcomes research, and health services research. HECOR is a growing field in which researchers quantify the clinical and economic value of healthcare interventions. Industry, payers, self-insuring employers, patients, and government agencies use HECOR study results to make better informed healthcare decisions and thereby improve patient care.  The program is designed to train students to conduct both clinical and economic studies to inform healthcare decisions. Students will learn how to conduct research that generates evidence on the effectiveness, benefits, and harms of different treatment options, including but not limited to: drugs, medical services, diagnostic tests, procedures, or ways to deliver health care.

Students enrolled in this program will take courses spanning health economics, data mining and statistical modeling with large with operational databases (e.g., payer, electronic medical records, and hospitals), and epidemiology in domestic and international settings. Graduates of this program will be well-positioned to pursue careers as analysts, managers, or directors in the fields of health outcomes research, market access, policy, economics, and reimbursement.

The program is designed as an aggressive, part-time program to be completed entirely online. Students may complete the program in as little as two years with courses offered in the fall, spring, and summer terms. Local students may take several of the courses in the Health Services Administration Master’s program on campus and work in person with faculty.
