The Master of Science in Accountancy is designed to provide students with the competencies necessary to begin careers as outstanding professional accountants. Graduates of the program will demonstrate competency in financial accounting, tax accounting, and in performing and communicating accounting research. MACC students will also use their technical skills to provide valuable community service to local residents through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Students will complete intensive and challenging coursework to prepare them for careers in assurance, tax, financial accounting, and advisory services. They will have a solid understanding of the impact of complex accounting issues on the organizations they serve as well as the impact to both internal and external stakeholders.

Curriculum
Students with an undergraduate degree in accounting will be required to complete 30 credit hours from the three primary program components: Five required MACC-designated courses: - MACC 620 Law and Professional Ethics
- MACC 611 Corporate Income Tax Reporting & Compliance or MACC 616 Taxation of Flow-Through Entities
- MACC 625 Current Topics in Accounting Practice or MACC 631 Advanced Financial Accounting
- MACC 612 Volunteer Income Tax Review and Advising
- One MACC elective from the courses listed above or the following:
- MACC 515 Nonprofit & Governmental Accountin
- MACC 622 Fraud Examination
- MACC 632 Advanced Managerial Accounting
- MACC 690 Corporate Governance
- Five other graduate course electives as listed in a later section.
Students with an undergraduate degree other than accounting will be required to complete from 30-42 credit hours, depending on prior coursework. - The five required MACC-designated courses listed above (15 credit hours).Two courses in Intermediate Financial Accounting (pre-requisite for conditional admission, undergraduate credit)
The following nine courses or their equivalents must also be taken. Up to five of these courses may be taken to fulfill the graduate course electives. (15-27 hours) - MACC 504 Analysis of Accounting Systems

CPA Exam Eligibility Considerations
Students without a business undergraduate degree may need additional courses to meet the criteria to be eligible to take the CPA exam in Ohio. In general, 150 semester credit hours are required to take the CPA exam. In Ohio, CPA exam eligibility can be met by completing 150 semester hours of coursework including a master’s degree in accounting. Students without a master’s degree in accounting require 150 semester hours including 30 semester hours of accounting in addition to 24 hours of general business courses. It is important to note that CPA exam eligibility criteria vary on a state by state basis. Eligibility criteria for each state can be found at www.nasba.org. Graduate Electives Students may take graduate electives from various related business fields, including finance, economics, and business analytics/information systems. Courses available will vary by semester. Please contact the MACC director for details. Students may choose from among the following optional concentrations. - Analytics: 12 credit hours are required, plus BAIS 655 Business Intelligence as a capstone.

- Values Based Leadership: 12 credit hours are required plus MACC 690: Corporate Governance as a capstone
