THEO 245 - Theology & Ecology 3 Credit Hours The Christian tradition is often charged with being irredeemably anthropocentric, caring only about the salvation of humans and their immaterial souls. This course will attempt to respond to this critique by providing an introduction to the growing field of ecotheology. We will explore the ambiguous ecological promise of Christian theology by carefully looking at how animals, nature, and the environment have been variously approached and understood in the Bible, the historical Christian tradition, and by contemporary ecotheologians. The goal of this course is to help students articulate a robust theological response to the contemporary environmental crisis.
