THEO 288 - Medieval Female Mystics 3 Credit Hours Mystics experience a spiritual life which is unbounded by traditional worship practices and religious norms. Certain Christian women in the Middle Ages were renowned for their unusual insight or prophesy, miraculous spiritual gifts, holiness, and extreme practices. Following a discussion of mysticism in general, this course will examine the lives, writings, and influence of women mystics who were regarded as saints and a few who were feared as heretics.
