ECON 394 - Sports Economics

3 Credit Hours
Sports economics is the application of economic models to sports questions. That sounds boring… it’s not. Sports bring MANY humans together, often organizing groups of humans around a common goal. The problem is that each individual has their own wants and needs as well. This creates tension and leads to difficult questions within teams, leagues, cities, and society as a whole. For example: Should D1 Student Athletes be paid to play? Is the level of US Women’s National Team player compensation unfair? Should teams from large markets (e.g., New York or LA) be forced to share revenues with the rest of the league? Should cities use tax dollars to subsidize new stadiums? Should we be able to gamble on sports? And much more…
