PPUB 600 - Private Interests & Public I 3 Credit Hours This course is an introduction to the historical origins of both ‘private interests’ and ‘public goods’ within the contexts of 19th- and 20th-century US economic and political history. Students will trace the overlapping histories of economic capitalism, political liberalism, and cultural modernity. We will examine how notions of private interests and public goods reflected the larger historical contexts of their age, how these concepts have changed over time, and how these concepts either conflicted or connected to create moments of reform.
