MUSC 113 - American Popular Music 3 Credit Hours This course surveys American popular music from the nineteenth century to the present day. Beginning with the minstrel show and the songs of Stephen Foster, it traces the development of dance music, Tin Pan Alley song, Ragtime, Blues, Jazz, Country, and R&B during the first half of the twentieth century, then covers the rise of Rock and Roll in the 1950s and a selction of later styles, such as Folk, British Invasion, Soul, Fun, Disco, Punk, Hip-Hop, and Latin music.
