EDSP 205 - Foundations in Sp. Ed. 3 Credit Hours This course provides an overview of national and state policies, the etiology, assessments, terms, classification, and issues of individuals and families with exceptional needs as well as the need for special education services and adaptions to the general education classroom. This course also addresses the process of collaborating to develop and write an individualized education program (IEP) to identify the adaptations and services needed by a student with a disability (ages 3-22).The historical and philosophical foundations of services for children and the impact of sensory impairments and disabilities on individuals, families and society will also be addressed. The course will cover research supported theories and issues concerning special education practices and methods, including identification of at risk needs awareness and developmental factors. The course aligns with Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession, Ohio Learning Standards, Council for Exceptional Children standards, High Leverage Practices for Inclusive classrooms, and Division of Early Childhood in CEC. (10 field hours)
