Biology, A.S.

The AS Biology includes an introduction to foundational concepts of biology and selected higher-level Biology electives, chosen in consultation with an adviser. It is appropriate for students interested in learning more about the science of life. Students will work with their adviser to formulate a career plan and next steps after graduating.

Requirements for Biology, A.S.


At least 60 credits are required for the degree.

  • Theo 111 (3)
  • Creative Perspectives (3)
  • Historical Perspectives OR Humanities elective (3)
  • Natural Science elective (3) - Included in the degree requirements
  • Social Science elective (3)
  • Solidarity and Kinship elective (3)

Note:


Students interested in health care careers are advised to take PSYC 100 and SOCI 101 for their Social Science and Solidarity and Kinship electives, respectively. Students interested in environmental careers are advised to take ECON 200 for their Social Science Elective.

Notes:


  • A minimum grade of C- or better in BIOL 160-163 is required for most upper division electives.
  • A 2.000 cumulative GPA average must be attained overall and in program courses.
  • Students aiming to later go on to Nursing should take BIOL 140-143 and BIOL 200-201, as well as General Psychology. Students aiming to later go on to degrees requiring graduate school should take CHEM 160-163, Human Physiology and General Psychology.
  • Consult with the pre-professional health adviser about all health professional plans.
