Return to: Majors, Minors, Certificates, Curriculums and Special Programs
The emergence of high throughput DNA sequencing technologies combined with the computing power of the modern era has led to the emergence of bioinformatics as a prominent interdisciplinary field. Bioinformatics is the organization of large volumes of genome, gene expression and protein sequence data into meaningful information that can help us understand the molecular basis of human disease, patterns of evolution and the future of genetic engineering. The Bioinformatics minor is a useful asset to people wanting to work in fields as diverse as biotechnology, conservation biology, synthetic biology and artificial intelligence. And it helps to prepare one for graduate study in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.
