Xavier University offers a number of programs which are interdisciplinary in nature, with curriculums which cross academic departments and colleges.
Sustainability
The Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Sustainability, and Society (ECOS) is the only interdisciplinary sustainability degree, consisting of a core of economics courses with electives liberally sourced across
disciplines on campus.
Pope Francis signed the Laudato Si encyclical in 2015, challenging institutions everywhere to adopt integral ecology: a holistic approach viewing the environment and humans as interconnected yet
interdependent, emphasizing that environmental issues cannot be separated from social or economic issues. In that regard, the interdisciplinary ECOS major trains students in economic analysis integrated
with studies of culture, ecology, global economic development, politics, and management to develop a robust understanding of sustainability in organizations, the economy, and society.
