HIST 162 - Asian History II 3 Credit Hours In this course we will examine the history of Asia from 1500 CE to the present, looking at how societies developed, changed, and interacted with one another in a pre-modern context. In the current day, there is an ever greater amount and intensity of contact between peoples and cultures from different parts of the world. In our interconnected world, what happens in Afghanistan, India, Iraq or Indonesia, for example, directly affects our lives in the United States. These modern-day interactions are deeply rooted in past experiences and events, and can only be fully understood when we have knowledge of this history. In the course we will pay special attention to the impact of and responses to European colonial expansion in Asia. Pre-requisite: HIST 161.
