EDAD 501 - MTSS & Support I: Academic


3 Credit Hours
The purpose of this course is to provide a framework of understanding for establishing an MTSS system that supports all students in the academic realm for students who are “at risk”. This will include establishing, organizing, assessing a school wide MTSS program. The course content will be presented through a critical theory lens and a social justice frame of reference Types of supports, developing targeted supports, Tier one, two and three strategies will be provided and discussed. This may also include discussions of academic support for EL students and advanced students. Systems will be presented for data collection, problem solving, intervention formation, assessment, and a clear process for advancement in the MTSS process if data warrants this movement. The course will emphasize ELA, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking, mathematical examples of Tier one and Tier two interventions. The presentation and use of the academic content standards- extended will be central to this course and the development of all interventions. There will also be an emphasis of applying both behavioral and academic supports in the development of academic interventions. Methods of data collection and analysis will be presented. A critical theory lens will be used to evaluate the equity of the academic supports developed.
