THEO 523 - Women In Early Christianity

In this course, students will explore a variety of texts that focus on women’s participation in early Christianity. The class will contextulize such texts and their representations of women with attention to Greco-Roman and Jewish culture and history. In their reading of canonical and non-canonical texts, students will engage a variety of methodologies in order to consider such issues as the place of gender in the developing theology of the early church and women’s leadership in the earliest Christian communities.
